Mr. Paalz has taught at Perry Middle School since 2003. He was voted Perry Middle School's Teacher of the Year in 2008, and was inducted as a fellow in the Atlantik-Brücke US-German cultural and education cooperative in 2012. Mr. Paalz is a past recipient of the Dr. Marie-France Hilgar Award for French Language and Literature through Mercer University. He was also awarded the Shah Grant for Gifted Education in 2016. 

Mr. Paalz currently teaches gifted 7th and 8th grade social studies. He is head of Perry Middle School's social studies department and a member of its Better Seeking Team. In addition to his academic duties, Mr. Paalz also manages the school yearbook and athletics website, and serves as huddle leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA.)
