Perry Middle School

Bio

Mr. Aaron-James Young has served as the Choral Director at Perry Middle School since 2018. A native of Milledgeville, Georgia, he earned a Bachelor of Music Education with a Vocal and Choral concentration from Albany State University. He currently serves on the Worship and Arts Ministry at Beulahland Bible Church.

Since joining Perry Middle School, Mr. Young has rebuilt the choral program from the ground up after the school went more than 12 years without a chorus program. Under his leadership, Perry Middle choirs have consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings at GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation. His students have been selected for District Honor Choir, Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Choir, Sixth Grade District Honor Choir, and Georgia All-State Choruses.

Mr. Young currently serves as the Georgia Music Educators Association District XI Chair, has been the middle school organizer for the District XI Honor Choir since 2016, and is the Houston County School District Middle School Chorus PLC Lead Teacher.

His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Education Association, Georgia Association of Educators, Albany State University National Alumni Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America, Inc., and Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Young enjoys spending time with family, especially making memories with and helping care for his niece and nephew in Fairburn, Georgia.
